The Best of Pursue Simple Joy 2017
Is 2017 almost over already? It seemed like yesterday Micah and I were ringing in the New Year asleep (because that’s how we roll, loving our sleep hahaha).
This year held many changes for the future of this blog. Changes for the better and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store. However, in order to move forward, it’s beneficial to reflect on all that this year brought for the life of Pursue Simple Joy and my family.
Earlier this year, Pursue Simple Joy morphed out of Tapestry Chronicles- the first “real” blog I birthed back in 2014/2015 shortly after I separated from the military.
Fun note, Tapestry Chronicles evolved from my very first blog: On Eagle’s Wings which I started in 2012 shortly after I went active duty in the Air Force. That one was definitely a hobby blog.
Anyway, I was growing unsettled with Tapestry Chronicles and couldn’t quite see how it would grow and align with my vision. After much thought, prayer, consulting with trusted friends/family and others in the blogging world, I finally decided to go ahead and rebrand before I was “too far gone”.
It was the best decision I could have made and I already feel so at home with our new brand and how it’s moving forward. I can’t wait to see even more of my vision come to fruition in the months and years ahead.
Creating more series posts was high on my list to do this year and it definitely taught me a lot. In order to become a serious blogger, I have to be better at planning ahead and not writing posts the night before they’re due. I’m still working on that, by the way ;). If posts are mapped out at least 2 weeks in advance, I’m not scrambling and am able to stay on top of promotion, engaging with my audience and getting ahead of future posts.
The series’ that were created this year were:
Top 5 Most Popular Posts
Next time I create a series, I’m going to do a better job of promoting it. Promotion will greatly help with the increased page views of any future series I do. The 3 other series didn’t rank because I didn’t promote them at all! Lesson learned on that one 🙂 Though, I am pleased with how well my Cultivating Romance in Marriage series did.
Blog Changes and Updates
Pursue Simple Joy also had a facelift. For the first time ever, we bit the bullet and invested in the look of the blog. I’m very pleased with how it turned out, however, I still have some ideas for how to change some things around. That’s on the bottom of the list, though.
The imagery and fonts are still in flux but until we can afford to invest in a full-time designer in order to cast our vision, this will have to do for now. I still love it and think it captures the vibe I want PSJ to have.
I’ve also created a Freebies Library and a Resource page that still needs to be added to. My ultimate goal is to be able to funnel any visitors to those pages so they can have access to whatever it is they need in order to cultivate simple joy in their lives.
What’s on the Horizon?
Overall, I would love for my blog to grow by at least 50% in 2018. I have high hopes for what I would like to bring to the internet. My biggest goal is to curate the Resources page and create PSJ’s first paid product.
When you sign up for my email newsletter, you will receive more consistent email updates from PSJ as well. My email newsletter has been hit or miss and is on the top of my list to revamp in 2018.
There also might be a course or webinar scheduled to release at the end of 2018 early 2019. I still have lots of research to do on a platform and how to actually get it done ;P.
After the email newsletter, my secondary goal is to post more consistently instead of posting in spurts and then not posting for a while. This has been something I’ve always struggled with. I want to put the final nail in the coffin for that to not be a constant reality in 2018.
Thirdly, I would love to collaborate with more brands and be able to find those companies that I know would be of benefit to you.
I’m pleased with the collaborations I’ve done this year and would like to bring even more in the months ahead.
- Not be too hard on myself to the point where I want to “give up” or “take a break” that turns into a few weeks instead of a few days
- Engage more in my Social Media circles – while not being sucked into nonsensical scrolling
- I need to network and get my name out there. One thing that I’m constantly coming across as I learn more about blogging and entrepreneurship, very few people are just going to “happen” upon your blog. You need to network and promote but in a tactful and classy way.
- Grow my email list.
All in all, it was a great year or lessons learned and slow but steady growth. I’m excited to see what 2018 has in store for Pursue Simple Joy. It is my hope that you stick around for the ride!
I appreciate you, my readers for encouraging me and pushing me to be better for you. Pursue Simple Joy wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you!
Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays. Happy New Year!
