I am what you consider “traditional” by our post-modern day standards. I have no shame in this and I consider it a joy to stand by the Bible and the Light of His Word and walk by faith. I’m also what you would consider “traditional” in everything holiday related. I love my Thanksgiving turkey and stuffing. I love my Patriotic BBQ celebrating America for the 4th of July. I love decking the halls for Christmas and enjoying a cup of egg nog by the fire.
One might not consider me traditional in one little guilty pleasure that I enjoy throughout the year. You see, I enjoy listening to Christmas music throughout the year… (cue gasps and gnashing of teeth). “Why would you do such a thing??!??!?” you might ask?
Christmas music fills me with so much JOY. Music has such a profound impact on my mood. When I find myself becoming gloomy or depressed, you might find me turning on my “Traditional Christmas” Pandora station. It never fails to make me crack a smile or sing along to the happy tunes. Trust me, I’ve heard the many gasps and scoffs and downright angry comments from people exclaiming why listening to Christmas music is practically sacrilegious. However, listening to Christmas music throughout the year doesn’t diminish it’s specialness and exclusivity for Christmas. If anything, it makes me that much more excited to listen to it when we put up the tree the day after Thanksgiving!
No matter what arguments people may have against listening to Christmas music throughout the year, one thing is for certain, they will not take my Joy away from me in celebrating Christ’s birth every day! Whether that means listening to Christmas music or not in order to reflect, that’s one little way you’ll find me happily enjoying the saving Grace of our Savior! Joy to the World!

There are so many ways we can pursue joy in our lives, but it has to come from the heart. Being momentarily happy and possessing an internal authentic joy in the face of difficult circumstances are two very different things. I believe it is the little moments of happiness that help shape and prepare us for the difficult life circumstances we all face. My question is what do you do in your everyday that brings you happiness and fosters a deep found joy in your life?
